🌱 Kingdom Growth Starts Small: A Devotional on the Mustard Seed
📖 Scripture:
“He put another parable before them, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.’” —Matthew 13:31–32 (ESV)
💡 Devotional Thought:
The Kingdom of God rarely looks impressive at first glance. Like a tiny mustard seed, it often starts small, unnoticed, and unimpressive to the human eye. But Jesus reminds us that small beginnings can yield eternal impact. What starts as a whispered prayer, an act of obedience, or a mustard-seed-sized faith can grow into something life-giving, sheltering others, and glorifying God.
This parable encourages us not to despise the days of small things. Whether you are beginning a ministry, nurturing your children in the faith, planting seeds of hope in a dark place, or simply staying faithful in quiet obedience - God sees, waters, and grows what you sow in His name.
Let this truth comfort and strengthen you today: God’s Kingdom grows not by size or speed, but by His Spirit and faithfulness.
🙏 Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that Your Kingdom begins in ways the world may overlook. Teach me to value what You value - to remain faithful in small things, knowing You are at work even when I cannot see it. Help me to sow in faith, serve in humility, and trust that You will bring the increase. May my life be a place where others find rest in Your goodness.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
👂HEARING GOD, PART 2: The Still Small Voice of the Holy Spirit
Series: Hearing God & Growing in Discernment
📖 Scripture:
“And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.”
—1 Kings 19:12 (ESV)
💡 Teaching and Encouragement:
God doesn’t always speak through dramatic signs or booming voices. Often, He speaks in a still small voice - a gentle whisper deep within our spirit. This is how Elijah encountered God after the chaos of wind, earthquake, and fire had passed.
This whisper isn't always audible. It's often an inner knowing, a quiet impression, or a spiritual nudge that aligns with God's Word. The Holy Spirit, who lives in every believer, communicates in this intimate way to guide, correct, comfort, and lead us in truth.
To hear this voice more clearly, we must make space for silence. The noise of the world, constant information, and even our own thoughts can drown out the Spirit's gentle promptings. As we learn to quiet our hearts in God’s presence, we begin to recognize His voice more easily.
Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). The more we walk with Him, the more attuned we become to His whisper in the wind.
📌 Practice Tip:
Set aside a few minutes of stillness each day. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart. Keep a journal nearby to note what He impresses on you. Test everything with Scripture.
🙏 Prayer:
Dear Father,
Thank You for giving me the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me. Help me to recognize Your voice, even when it comes as a gentle whisper. Quiet the distractions around me and within me, and teach me to listen closely. Deepen my discernment so that I may walk in step with You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
